The Department of Veterans Services (DVS) is dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of Virginia's veterans. As a Housekeeping Assistant at the Davis & McDaniel Vet Care Center, you play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for veterans and their families. Your work directly supports the facility's mission by ensuring that all areas are hygienic and ready for patient care.
In this position, you will apply appropriate cleaning techniques and procedures to a broad range of surfaces throughout the care center. Your day-to-day responsibilities include sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, dusting, polishing, scrubbing, vacuuming, and waste removal. You will also handle routine replenishment of essential supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soaps, as well as the cleanup of body fluids and waste.
Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of housekeeping storage areas and carts is a key part of the job. You will be responsible for cleaning and properly storing all equipment after each use, and promptly reporting any malfunctions or repair needs to your supervisor. Additionally, you will maintain accurate records regarding detail cleaning, discharge/terminal cleaning, and periodic cleaning requirements. As a member of the Environmental Services team, you may be required to assist the agency or state government during emergency declarations.
