As a Groundperson with Wright Tree Service, you are the backbone of our vegetation maintenance operations along power lines. Your primary mission is to ensure the safety and efficiency of ground-level activities, working in tandem with crews to clear brush, manage debris, and maintain the integrity of the power corridor. This role is critical for identifying safety hazards and utilizing specialized tools to address vegetation challenges, ensuring that our work protects both the public and the infrastructure.
You will be an active participant in Wright's culture of safety and employee ownership. Your day-to-day involves a dynamic mix of physical labor and technical operation, from cutting brush and feeding woodchippers to setting up traffic control devices to protect employees and the public. You will also play a key role in mentoring less experienced team members on company policies, OSHA regulations, and approved work methods.
This position is physically demanding and requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, heat, cold, and snow. You will navigate rugged terrain and be exposed to various environmental factors, such as irritating plants, insects, dust, and the noise of heavy machinery. The role demands high alertness when operating hazardous equipment like chainsaws, pole pruners, and stump grinders.
Flexibility is essential. While you will maintain regular attendance, the nature of utility work means you may be required to work long hours, overtime, and be on call for emergencies, natural disasters, or storm work, including holidays and weekends. During such events, you may need to travel extensively outside your regular work location to support recovery efforts.
