The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) is dedicated to advancing our understanding of infection and disease progression. Our research interests span host signaling responses to viral infections, the molecular mechanisms of NK and NK T cell activation, and the principles underlying fungal pathogenesis. This work creates an interdisciplinary structure for our training programs, supporting undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education in microbiology and immunology.
We foster a collaborative environment through lecture courses, seminars, and laboratory research, including undergraduate independent studies and graduate theses. Our team works closely with faculty both within the department and across campus and hospital-based institutions.
The Grants and Financial Coordinator serves as a vital administrative partner to the MMI Department Manager, Chair, Finance and Administration Manager, and Principal Investigators (including Graduate Students, Postdocs, and Research Track Faculty). This role is designed to ensure the seamless execution of pre- and post-award financial services, acting as a bridge between complex grant requirements and departmental operations.
In this position, you will manage the lifecycle of sponsored research funding. Your day-to-day involves preparing and reviewing grant proposals using the HURON grant management tool and various sponsor submission platforms. You will coordinate contracts by processing awards, interpreting terms and conditions to ensure compliance, and providing guidance on sponsored project issues. The role requires active participation in budget management, expenditure reviews, and financial reporting.
Additionally, you will serve as a backup HR Coordinator for the department, assisting with staff and postdoc recruitment postings and generating reports on position and costing end dates. You will act as an advisor to the grant and department managers, flagging items requiring immediate attention. This is a dynamic role within a deadline-oriented environment where adaptability to changing software, federal regulations, and university policies is essential.
