The Nashville VA Medical Center and the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center are seeking a highly qualified Physician to serve as Transplant Section Chief. This joint appointment offers an exceptional opportunity to provide world-class care to Veterans while contributing to education and clinical excellence in one of the nation's top academic health environments.
Specialties considered include Transplant, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, and Cardiology. The role is a Part-time position (35 hours/week) within our dynamic Medical Service team.
The Transplant Section Chief will lead the VA Tennessee Valley Health System's transplant program, providing direct patient care and administrative oversight. This position serves as a bridge between clinical excellence and leadership, allowing the incumbent to serve America's Veterans while advancing their academic career in collaboration with Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The role involves a balanced commitment: approximately 50% of time is dedicated to clinical activities, delivering high-quality transplant medicine care within the physician's parent specialty, while the remainder focuses on leadership, administration, and education. The Section Chief will evaluate and manage patients referred for transplantation in both outpatient and inpatient settings and oversee the inpatient transplant consult service.
As a key member of the Medical Service leadership team, the Section Chief will assist the Chief of Staff and Chief of Medicine in overseeing transplant-related administrative and clinical operations. A core mission of this role is promoting a culture of integrity, respect, and Veteran-centered care, while supervising attending physicians and section staff.
The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flexibility for additional coverage and ad hoc telework may be approved at the supervisor's discretion. The position requires maintaining adherence to all applicable privacy and information security regulations.
