About the Role

As a Forensic Accountant, you will operate under the general direction of an attorney to conduct forensic accounting investigations involving individuals, organizations, and businesses facing economic fraud or financial crimes. This role is critical to the prosecution team, requiring you to prepare detailed reports on financial investigations and assist in the presentation of civil or criminal cases.

Your day-to-day work involves planning and directing investigative audits of complex financial transactions, digital files, and records to uncover evidence of embezzlement and fraud. You will analyze and reconstruct balance sheets, income statements, and bank records to form conclusions and express expert opinions. A key component of the position is serving as an expert witness in court, where you will explain complex financial transactions and records to non-accountants in clear, understandable terms.

You will collaborate closely with attorneys, investigators, and law enforcement to interview suspects and witnesses, advise on accounting matters related to fraud, and assist in the preparation of search warrants and seizure of financial records. Additionally, you will help identify and recover digitally stored financial evidence and educate staff on forensic accounting methodologies.

Hiring Process

The recruitment process for this position includes the following steps:

2. Written Examination: Candidates must pass a pass/fail written examination testing knowledge of legal principles, accounting, auditing, and software. A score of at least 70% is required to proceed.
3. Oral Examination: A job-related oral examination evaluates knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for the role. Candidates must score 70% or higher to qualify for the eligible list. (Note: If there are three or fewer qualified applicants, an oral exam may be waived, and a score of 70% assigned to each application).
4. Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, the successful candidate must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation.
