What if all plastics were recycled? Today, less than 10% are. The other 90% are either mismanaged and buried in landfills, sent to incinerators, or end up in our environment as litter polluting our land, rivers, and oceans. At Alterra, we convert plastics back into their original building blocks to produce new plastics and other valuable products. We're disrupting the traditional thinking that used plastic should be discarded and helping people see that plastics are valuable and designed to become new again. That's Alterra…solving plastic pollution through infinitely renewed plastics.
The Field Technician is essential to monitoring Alterra's proprietary process for producing ISCC Plus circular oil. You will support safe and efficient plant operations by conducting routine inspections, operating and adjusting equipment in the field, and communicating plant conditions to the Control Board Operator. This role ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards while providing first-line troubleshooting and maintenance support to keep the plant operating reliably.
At Alterra, you're not just taking a job, you're joining a team committed to solving plastic pollution and redefining what's possible for plastics and for the planet. Guided by our values—We Believe, We Listen, We Adapt, We Protect, and We Teach—we work with purpose, curiosity, and conviction to create lasting change. If you're driven by meaningful impact and ready to help build a future where plastics are infinitely renewed, we'd be excited to consider your application.
Alterra is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will be considered without regard to age, race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, nationality, sex, religion, or veteran status.

Alterra operates within the environmental services industry, headquartered in Akron, Ohio. The company addresses global plastic pollution by deploying continuous advanced recycling technology to transform discarded plastics into valuable petrochemical materials. This process supports the circular economy by converting waste that would otherwise end up in landfills into feedstock for new plastic production.
The facility in Akron utilizes patented thermochemical liquefaction technology to process 60 tons of waste plastic daily. This operation diverts millions of pounds of material from landfills annually. Alterra licenses this technology to organizations seeking to recycle challenging plastic types or develop more sustainable products. Current partnerships include entities in the solid waste sector, government bodies, and petrochemical firms.
In January 2021, Neste, recognized as a top sustainable company, acquired a minority interest in Alterra. This collaboration aims to further develop and commercialize the technology across Europe and globally. The organization is driven by a team of engineers and experts focused on eliminating the need for landfilling and incinerating plastic waste through scalable, global solutions.
