This position is dedicated to providing a quality life for Enid residents by assisting in the preservation and maintenance of the city's water and wastewater systems. As a key member of the Utility Maintenance division, you will work under the supervision of the Utility Maintenance Supervisor, Foreman, or Heavy Equipment Operator to ensure the collection system operates smoothly and efficiently.
Your day will involve a mix of hands-on field work and technical support. You will operate specialized equipment such as vactor attachments, jet nozzles, and root cutters to clean sewer lines, while also assisting with closed-circuit camera inspections. The role requires manual excavation and repair of city utilities, including pressurized water lines, and the use of various power tools and concrete saws for infrastructure maintenance. You will also manage traffic safety by setting up barricades and cones, and respond to customer call-ins regarding utility issues.
The position operates on a regular 8-hour shift (typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) but includes a 24-hour on-call status for nights and weekends as required. You must be able to report to work within 30 minutes of a call. The work environment is outdoors and exposes you to changing weather conditions, high noise levels, and potential contact with raw sewage, chemicals, and confined spaces.
Candidates selected for this position will be subject to post-offer, pre-employment drug screening, physical examination, and criminal background checks. In compliance with 49 CFR regulations, the City will investigate your safety performance history with previous employers and obtain a Motor Vehicle Report covering the last three years. As a CDL driver, you must comply with all DOT regulations, including random drug and alcohol testing.
To be considered, you must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's License with an acceptable driving record, be at least 18 years of age, and have access to a telephone. The City is committed to a fair hiring process where only essential functions are included, and reasonable accommodations may be made in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, provided they do not pose safety risks or undue hardships.
The City of Enid is an equal opportunity employer. We value a diverse workforce and consider qualified applicants regardless of background. Our team is dedicated to maintaining the City's professional reputation through aggressive, proactive preventive maintenance and strict adherence to safety policies and regulatory compliance.
