About the Mission

The Division of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) is committed to strengthening the well-being of the diverse community by protecting and improving the lives of all children, adults, and families. Through assistance, partnership, advocacy, outreach, and quality services, DFS works to stabilize families experiencing abuse or neglect and those at risk of further harm.

About the Role

As a member of the Protection and Preservation Services (PPS) team in the South County/Alexandria region, you will provide clinical casework services to support vulnerable families. This role is critical to ensuring child safety and family stability within the community.

Your day will involve performing comprehensive assessments of children and families, including home visits, to evaluate safety risks, parenting capacity, and basic needs. You will collaborate with parents, caretakers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop service plans that reduce risk and promote well-being. The role requires responding to crises, coordinating care for essential services like housing and mental health support, and advocating for families to obtain necessary resources.

This position operates within a dynamic environment where evening, weekend, and holiday work is required. You will participate in an on-call rotation that includes overnight and immediate field response duties to ensure continuous protection for children. The role also involves preparing court petitions, testifying in legal proceedings, and maintaining detailed, legally significant case documentation.

Hiring Process

Candidates selected for this position will undergo a panel interview, which may include a practical exercise. Successful applicants must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and a Child Protective Services check.
