This position serves as the operational backbone of our kitchen, coordinating the activities of chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff to ensure efficient and profitable food service. The role is designed to bridge the gap between culinary creativity and business acumen, overseeing everything from menu planning and cost control to the daily execution of high-quality meals.
In this capacity, you will not only direct the training of kitchen personnel but also personally engage in the preparation and cooking of foods. Your day involves analyzing recipes to determine food, labor, and overhead costs, devising special dishes, and establishing strict nutrition and sanitation standards. You will be responsible for achieving budget goals for weekly food and labor costs while delivering an exceptional dining experience through outstanding hospitality.
As a leader within the kitchen, you will manage a team of culinary professionals. This includes familiarizing newly hired chefs and cooks with kitchen practices, overseeing the training of apprentices, and fostering a positive team spirit. You will define responsibilities, set goals, and provide performance feedback to ensure the team meets commitments and maintains high standards of quality and safety.
To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a minimum of two years of related experience in a full-service restaurant. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills to design work flows, continuous learning habits to stay abreast of culinary developments, and the ability to use technology effectively.
Key competencies include problem-solving, effective communication (both verbal and written), and strong leadership abilities to motivate others and build morale. You must exhibit business acumen regarding market competition and cost consciousness to work within approved budgets. Additionally, a commitment to ethics, organizational support, and safety procedures is essential.
Candidates must have the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as write routine reports and correspondence. Strong verbal communication skills are required to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Specific City and State Food Safety Certificate requirements will be requested prior to hire.
