This recruitment is part of the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative designed to expedite the hiring process and fast-track qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai'i.
The State Entomologist role focuses on flies, snails, beetles, rodents, and other pests of economic and/or medical significance. The position involves the development, testing, and application of methods for pest propagation or control. Major problem-solving approaches include manipulating natural enemies, modifying environments, changing agricultural practices, introducing beneficial organisms, and integrating biological, chemical, and cultural control measures.
As an Entomologist IV, you will independently perform the analysis, evaluation, and solution of complex entomological problems with statewide implications. Depending on assignment, you may also supervise lower-level entomologists and perform other related duties.
Applications are first reviewed for Legal Authorization to work in the US. Qualified applicants are referred to the hiring department for an initial review. Those meeting departmental requirements may be contacted for an interview. All applicants interviewed by the hiring program will be notified of their selection or non-selection by the department.
Please note that an application referral or potential interview does not imply that all Minimum Qualification Requirements have been met. A thorough review of all applications is conducted by the Department of Human Resources Development, and all applicants will be notified of the final disposition.
The examination for this recruitment is conducted on an unassembled basis, where the score is based on an evaluation and rating of education and experience. It is critical that your application provides a clear and detailed description of the duties and responsibilities of each position held. In-person interviews and/or further testing in Hawaii may be required at the discretion of the hiring agency; if required, applicants must be available to participate in person at their own expense.
The State of Hawai'i complies with federal and state disability laws and makes reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities. If you require reasonable accommodations to complete an application, pre-employment testing, or participate in the selection process, please call 808-587-1111 for assistance.
The Department of Human Resources Development utilizes electronic mail to notify applicants of important information regarding the status and processing of their applications. Please ensure your contact information is current and accessible.
