As a Data Center Engineering Technician, you will serve as Amazon's front line for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining the heartbeat of mission-critical technology infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations that power global digital experiences. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining an extraordinary 99.999% uptime, keeping the digital world running smoothly and efficiently.
Reporting to a site's Data Center Facility Manager, you will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical facility equipment. This includes standby diesel generators and related fuel systems, three-phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, wet cell batteries), and mechanical systems such as CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, and motors. You will also support fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.
This role acts as the first responder for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting. You will perform daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment to ensure 24/7 reliability. You will assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events, perform rack installs and decommissioning, and execute projects from conception to completion. Additionally, you will provide on-site support to contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
The position supports data centers in various operational stages. You may be assigned to a facility still under development, which could require travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational. Shifts can be up to 12 hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule, with some locations having on-call rotations. The role may also support more than one location or site.
