The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing an inclusive environment for its workforce and supporting the communities it serves. The organization ensures that no employee or applicant is discriminated against based on race, color, creed, religion, sex, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, ancestry, age, military discharge, disability, or any other status protected by federal, state, or local laws.
This position serves as a senior-level professional engineer under general supervision, responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, track, and facilities projects. The role involves the selection and application of complex engineering techniques and procedures to manage moderately complex projects. A primary challenge is designing track components for maximum useful life to minimize disruption to passengers, while staying abreast of scientific knowledge and engineering technology to solve theoretical or practical civil engineering problems.
The work environment includes a general office setting as well as outdoor field work. Engineers will conduct inspections and testing of the rapid transit track system, often walking on elevated track structures and long distances of track while carrying light tools. Field work may take place in or near shop, garage, and terminal areas, adjacent to energized contact rails and moving trains, and is subject to prevailing weather conditions.
To be considered, applications must be completed in their entirety, including an uploaded resume/work history, qualifications, and job assessment questions. All information provided must be accurate and truthful. Failure to respond to correspondences in a timely fashion may result in the application being closed for non-responsiveness.
Employees and/or union members will be given priority consideration in the hiring process per applicable labor contracts. The rate of pay is determined by the applicant's entered service date and service date in the union jurisdiction of this classification.
CTA is committed to making reasonable accommodations for the known disabilities of otherwise qualified applicants and employees, unless undue hardship would result.
