The Aztec Municipal School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education K-12 Teacher to provide individualized education programs for students qualifying under IDEIA. Working under the immediate direction of the building principal, this role is vital to ensuring that every student receives the support necessary to succeed academically and socially.
In this position, you will serve as a key partner in the educational journey of students with diverse needs. Your day will involve creating and maintaining a functional, inclusive learning environment—whether in a self-contained classroom, resource room, or inclusionary setting. You will collaborate closely with a team of professionals, including educational assistants, to develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) that address the unique mental, physical, and emotional maturities of your students.
Beyond the classroom, you will be an active participant in the school community. This includes leading IEP meetings, functional behavioral assessments, and staffing sessions to ensure all student needs are met. You will also engage with parents and the broader community through conferences, open houses, and school-sponsored activities, fostering a culture of dignity, respect, and open communication.
To be considered for this position, candidates must hold a valid New Mexico Teaching License in Special Education and meet all state licensure requirements, including the passage of relevant competency and content knowledge assessments. A valid driver's license is required, as the role may involve driving district-owned vehicles (with a Defensive Driving course provided by the district).
Interested applicants should review the full list of minimum and desired qualifications. The district evaluates performance annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy. Reasonable accommodations are available to eligible individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
The Aztec Municipal School District is committed to treating all individuals with dignity and respect. We recognize the sensitive nature of this position and the access to confidential records it entails, requiring the highest degree of discretion. We strive to create a work environment where staff can effectively collaborate with a variety of personalities and temperaments to support the success of all students.
