Founded in 2001, Mastery Schools is a public charter network of 23 K-12 schools in Philadelphia and Camden, serving more than 14,000 students. Our mission is to provide all students with the academic and personal skills they need to succeed after graduation and pursue their dreams. Student achievement is the reason we exist, and every member of our team is dedicated to securing student success.
We are committed to pursuing equity, actively disrupting systemic racism, and addressing the disparities that limit our students' choices. Our culture is built on respect, service, and the belief that the success of our students, their families, and the communities we serve will help us achieve our mission. We foster a positive, open, and inclusive environment where honesty, humor, and continuous improvement are celebrated. Together, we are creating a model urban school district that serves all students with excellence.
At Mastery, "all means all." Nearly one quarter of our students have individualized education plans (IEPs), and we believe these plans create opportunities for teachers, parents, administrators, and students to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what's possible for our diverse learners.
Special education teachers at Mastery deliver robust, research-based interventions, frequently monitor progress, and make logical adjustments to produce the best possible outcomes. Our highest priority is for diverse learners to spend as much time as possible within the general education setting, minimizing time in self-contained classrooms. To accomplish this, we maintain multiple classrooms tailored towards Autism Support, Emotional Support, Life Skills, Multiple Disability Support, and Multi-Lingual Learner Support, striving to maximize our teacher-to-student ratio.
We operate a robust Response to Intervention program supported by a wide variety of Common Foundation research-based curriculums in Reading, Math, and Writing. We highly value continuous improvement and offer frequent embedded opportunities for professional development, teacher coaching, skill building, and data-driven instruction meetings to accelerate your growth as a special educator.
Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every task listed in a job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the role, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. Mastery may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.
Mastery offers a full benefits program and opportunities for professional growth. Our most popular benefits include a 403(b) retirement plan for PA employees (with a 5% match for full-time employees), enrollment in the State of New Jersey Pension Plan for NJ employees, a robust Employee Assistance Program, mental health and counseling programs, and an annual Professional Development Fund. Additionally, we offer discounts and perks at a myriad of retailers, travel organizations, and insurance providers, along with access to the HealthAdvocate Helpdesk to help navigate benefits-related topics.
