Residence in the City of Buffalo is mandatory for all positions. This position involves important technical work focused on the enforcement of city ordinances and electrical codes. Incumbents are responsible for inspecting electrical wiring, fixtures, and machinery to ensure compliance with city ordinances, electrical codes, and contract plans and specifications. While assignments are received from the Chief Electrical Inspector, incumbents work independently to make final decisions. In disputed or exceptionally difficult cases, matters may be referred to a superior for a decision. The role may also involve supervising clerical personnel.
