What We Can Achieve Together

The Ecological Monitoring and Management Crew Member (EMMCM) plays a vital role in the Community Health Index (CHI) monitoring protocols, providing critical feedback to forest managers on their management efforts. This data drives improved decision-making for the stewardship of rare plant communities and larger forest complexes. Beyond monitoring, crew members may participate in noxious weed management, brush management, and equipment maintenance. The role demands adaptability to variable weather conditions, remote locations, and difficult, hazardous terrain.

Who We Are

The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to protect the lands and waters upon which all life depends. As a science-based organization, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to the world’s toughest challenges so that people and nature can thrive. Rooted in our mission and guided by values of respect for all people, communities, and cultures, we are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive work environment where every colleague feels a sense of belonging and that their unique contributions are valued.

About the Role

You will join a team environment under close supervision, working in crew housing where members are in close proximity both during and after work hours. While based out of Van Buren, MO, the position involves frequent travel, with occasional short-duration camping necessary. The role is designed for those who bring conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to a physically demanding environment. We encourage applicants to view our TNC Talent playlist on YouTube or visit Glassdoor for insights into life inside the organization.

Hiring Process

Our recruiting process features a rolling interview approach to ensure we engage applicants in a timely manner. We review applications in the order received, and once a strong candidate pool is identified, the role will be unposted. Because the timeline varies based on expressed interest, we highly encourage candidates to apply as soon as possible. Positions will be filled as soon as possible and run through September 25, 2026.

Equal Opportunity

The Nature Conservancy is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Our commitment to equal employment opportunity includes the recognition that our conservation mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. We encourage applicants from all cultures, races, colors, religions, sexes, national or regional origins, ages, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity, military, protected veteran status, or other status protected by law. TNC is committed to offering accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans in our job application process. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, please send a note to applyhelp@tnc.org with "Request for Accommodation" in the subject line.
