The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration—working collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. DEMA also serves as the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military, providing forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions.
The Disaster Recovery Coordinator 2 is a part-time, as-needed position designed to provide the agency with the flexibility to expand staffing levels based on mission requirements. Personnel in this role act as supplemental staff in the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) during activations for incidents, events, or exercises. This position is critical for supporting any branch or section within the Arizona Division of Emergency Management, requiring the ability to work effectively in high-stress environments and potentially adverse conditions during field deployments.
As a Disaster Reservist Coordinator 2 (DRC 2), you will deploy to act as a liaison between the SEOC and county/local Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) or Incident Command Posts (ICP). Your primary function is to facilitate effective communication and coordination between these entities to support intelligence gathering and policy decisions that mitigate the effects of a disaster. You will oversee the administration of an Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT), managing training, readiness, and roster responsibilities to ensure the team is prepared for deployment. The role actively promotes a continuous improvement workplace culture through teamwork, root cause problem solving, and the review of performance metrics.
Selected candidates must be prepared for 24/7 response and no-notice recall to the State or Alternate Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and/or Joint Field Office (JFO) during disaster or exercise activations. The position requires a valid state-issued driver's license and the ability to travel in and out of state. Candidates must pass a criminal background investigation and possess identification enabling entry to federal facilities.
New hires are required to complete specific FEMA courses (IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800, and IS 2200) and must achieve ICS Instructor certification, EMAC A-Team qualification, and AQS LNO/LOFR credentialing within two years of the hire date. All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
The State of Arizona is an Equal Opportunity and Reasonable Accommodation Employer. DEMA is a smoke-free work environment and considers qualified applicants regardless of background.
