About the Team

enGen is part of Highmark Health, a leading healthcare organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve. Our data engineering group operates at the intersection of advanced technology and critical healthcare delivery. We manage the backbone of clinical, claims, and operational data, ensuring that trusted, actionable insights are available to internal stakeholders and external partners. Our mission is to build scalable, secure, and cost-effective data platforms that drive innovation while strictly adhering to healthcare regulatory standards like HIPAA and HITRUST.

About the Role

This strategic leadership role is pivotal in defining and owning the long-term data platform and engineering strategy for the enterprise. You will serve as the technical advisor to senior leadership, bridging the gap between complex data engineering concepts and business stakeholders. The position requires a deep understanding of the healthcare domain, including standards like FHIR and HL7, and hands-on experience managing Protected Health Information (PHI).

In this role, you will lead and scale high-performing data platform engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. You will be responsible for establishing technical roadmaps, driving architectural decisions for data ingestion and storage, and guiding the adoption of modern practices such as DataOps and Infrastructure as Code. Your day-to-day will involve influencing cross-functional partners across data science, analytics, product, and clinical teams to deliver reliable data pipelines and platforms that support high availability and performance.

Hiring Process

Candidates selected for this role will engage in a comprehensive interview process designed to assess both technical depth and leadership capabilities. The process typically includes:

  1. Initial Screening: A conversation with a recruiter to discuss background and role alignment.
  2. Technical & Leadership Deep Dive: Interviews focusing on distributed systems architecture, healthcare data standards, and team management strategies.
  3. Stakeholder Alignment: Discussions with senior leadership to evaluate strategic vision and communication skills.
  4. Final Review: A final round to confirm cultural fit and offer details.

Equal Opportunity & Culture

Highmark Health and its affiliates are committed to creating an inclusive environment. We prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals based on their status as protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, or any category protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. We endeavor to make our application process accessible to all users; if you require an accommodation to complete the application, please contact HR Services Online at HRServices@highmarkhealth.org.

All employees are expected to adhere to the company's Code of Business Conduct and maintain the highest standards of data security and privacy in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
