About the Role
We are seeking a highly hands-on Controller to join our small team of three. This strategic and tactical role partners closely with the CEO to strengthen financial sustainability, support program growth, manage cash flow, and contribute to revenue strategy.
In this position, you will be directly responsible for preparing all financial reports, developing and monitoring budgets, and implementing strong internal controls. You will serve as the primary liaison to external auditors, ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards while supporting the organization's mission and long-term stability. The role requires a collaborative, hands-on leadership style capable of clearly communicating financial information to the CEO, leadership team, and non-financial staff.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleOversee all accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- check_circlePrepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- check_circleLead the annual budgeting process and support ongoing forecasting and financial planning
- check_circleEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including nonprofit reporting
- check_circleOversee financial management of grants, contracts, and restricted funds
- check_circleEstablish and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and procedures
- check_circleManage cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity to ensure financial stability
- check_circleOversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management functions
- check_circleCoordinate and lead year-end financial audits as primary liaison with external auditors
- check_circleSupervise, mentor, and evaluate accounting department staff
- check_circleProvide financial training and technical assistance to program managers
- check_circleMonitor organizational and program budgets, analyze variances, and provide recommendations
Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- verifiedActive California CPA license preferred
- verifiedMinimum of ten (10) years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
Nice to Have
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Active California CPA license. Nonprofit or grant-funded experience.
