Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, featuring a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since our founding in 1998, we have grown through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that remain integral parts of our team today. This unique evolution allows us to combine the robust resources of a large corporation with the enduring values and care of a family-run business.
We are committed to delivering high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing the safety of our employees, customers, and communities. Our diverse client base includes industrial, medical, and commercial/residential sectors.
This position serves as a vital support pillar within our maintenance operations, bridging the gap between drivers and our technical teams. The role is designed to ensure the reliability and safety of our heavy-duty and light-duty fleet, including gasoline, diesel, and CNG systems. You will be the first line of defense in vehicle safety, assisting drivers with daily post-trip and vehicle safety inspections while conducting thorough safety checks during scheduled maintenance lanes.
In this role, you will actively participate in the preventative maintenance ecosystem. Your day will involve lubricating vehicle components, performing basic repairs on various truck types (such as rear load, front load, roll-off, and grapple trucks), and supporting technicians with complex repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems. Effective communication is key; you will collaborate with A & B technicians and drivers to discuss vehicle issues and share preventative techniques to minimize future repairs. Maintaining a clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant work environment is also a core responsibility.
Candidates selected for an interview will be expected to participate in corporation-sponsored training courses to ensure they are up to date with current technologies and safety protocols. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Interstate Waste Services provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training.
