The U.S. Navy is launching a unique, limited-time pilot program to integrate civilian Dental Hygienists directly into the fleet as Hospital Corpsmen (HM/DH). This initiative is designed to fast-track advancement for qualified professionals, allowing you to provide comprehensive clinical care to Sailors, Marines, and their families. Your work will directly support the oral health and operational readiness of the nation's forces, bridging the gap between civilian expertise and military service.
As a Dental Hygienist in this pilot program, you will join a mission-driven team operating in modern, well-equipped facilities ranging from state-of-the-art shore-based hospitals to afloat dental units aboard aircraft carriers and hospital ships. Unlike private practice, you will work within a team-based clinical environment focused on patient readiness rather than production pressures.
Your day-to-day involves assessing, planning, and delivering preventive and therapeutic dental care under the supervision of a Navy Dental Officer. You will perform periodontal therapy, interpret radiographs, and provide critical oral health education. The role offers a dynamic mix of clinical duties and the opportunity to support humanitarian missions and operational deployments worldwide, ensuring you build clinical excellence in diverse environments.
This Direct Procurement Enlistment Program (DPEP) is a temporary pilot initiative. Eligibility depends on your current credentials:
Candidates must meet Navy medical, legal, and fitness standards, including normal color perception and vision correctable to 20/20. The selection process includes providing a recommendation from your program director and completing interviews with clinical supervisors. Due to the pilot nature of this program, timelines and locations are subject to change based on Navy needs; interested candidates should confirm current offerings and incentives with a recruiter.
The Navy is committed to your professional growth, offering specialized training and opportunities to compete for advanced NEC codes. You will join a culture that values clinical excellence and service, with access to tuition assistance, the Post-9/11 GI Bill, and industry-recognized certifications. While assignments are available worldwide with a mix of shore and sea duties, the core mission remains supporting the health and readiness of the fleet.
The U.S. Navy is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, disability, or protected veteran status.
