About the Role
We are seeking a Data Scientist to drive our Natural Language Processing (NLP) project, specifically focused on the accurate and automatic tokenization of language data from both spoken and written sources. In this position, you will develop automated solutions for annotating language data with parts of speech information. A key component of your work involves enhancing existing models by rigorously evaluating their performance against human-generated annotations for both speech and text. Your contributions will be instrumental in advancing our NLP capabilities and ensuring the highest quality of language processing.
This role requires translating practical mission needs and complex analytic questions related to large datasets into technical requirements. You will devise strategies to extract meaning and value from vast data holdings, making and communicating principled conclusions using elements of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. You will be responsible for developing and implementing qualitative and quantitative methods to characterize, explore, and assess large datasets in various states of organization and cleanliness, accounting for the unique features and limitations inherent in government data holdings.
Effective communication is essential; you must be able to translate complex technical information for non-technical audiences and make informed recommendations regarding competing technical solutions. This includes maintaining awareness of the constantly shifting government collection, processing, storage, and analytic capabilities and limitations.
Qualifications & Clearance
To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field with a substantial computational component. Alternatively, an Associate's degree with 12 years of relevant experience is considered. A broader range of degrees may be accepted if accompanied by a Certificate in Data Science from an accredited institution.
Relevant experience must include designing and implementing machine learning, data science, advanced analytical algorithms, programming (e.g., Python), statistical analysis, data management, data mining, and software engineering. Experience spanning more than one of these areas is strongly preferred.
Security Clearance: An active Top Secret/Secret (TS/SCI) clearance with polygraph is required.
