The Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist to join the UPMC Cytogenetics Laboratories in Pittsburgh, PA. This role operates within a dynamic academic environment dedicated to advancing clinical diagnostics through state-of-the-art testing technologies and rigorous research.
The position serves as a critical bridge between clinical operations and academic innovation. The successful candidate will not only ensure the accurate and efficient delivery of cytogenetic services for oncological, prenatal, and postnatal specimens but also drive the development of new in-house assays. This role is integral to the Division of Molecular & Genomic Pathology, fostering a culture where teaching, research, and clinical excellence converge.
As the Laboratory Director, you will work alongside the Medical Director to oversee the direction, supervision, and administration of laboratory operations. Your day-to-day impact will involve analyzing complex results, validating new tests, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as CLIA and CAP. You will lead technical staff in proficiency testing and maintain the high-quality standards required for patient care.
Beyond laboratory management, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of pathology education. You will actively participate in the training of Pathology and OB/GYN residents, fellows, and LGG fellows through the ACGME-accredited program. Innovation is central to the team's activities; you are expected to collaborate on publishing, developing new tests, and leveraging institutional support for research and teaching initiatives.
Candidates with an MD/DO and/or PhD in Biology who are ABMGG-Certified or eligible for certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) or Cytogenetics are encouraged to apply. Priority consideration will be given to those with specific experience in oncology specimen testing and the development of molecular and cytogenetic tests, such as Optical Genome Mapping.
