The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of school buildings. This position involves performing a variety of manual activities to clean and maintain facilities, ensuring a welcoming environment for students and staff. Beyond standard cleaning duties, the role includes controlling and performing minor maintenance on heating and air conditioning equipment.
Employees in this class operate with limited supervision, introducing minor procedural changes and solving simple problems independently before escalating issues to a supervisor. The role requires adaptability, as custodians may also be responsible for raising and lowering flags, securing buildings, adjusting environmental controls, and arranging furniture for events. A key requirement for recent hires is the possession of a CDL with P/S endorsements or the eligibility to obtain them; failure to pursue this training or ineligibility may result in dismissal.
