The Custodial Technician Shift Lead serves as the primary point of contact for custodial staff during assigned shifts, working closely with the Senior Facilities Manager to ensure the building remains in a clean and orderly condition. This role is essential to supporting the Science Center's mission to bring science to life and lives to science. As a leader on duty, you will guide the daily operations of the custodial team, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, school groups, and event attendees.
Your day involves a dynamic mix of hands-on cleaning, team leadership, and facility support. You will perform heavy cleaning tasks such as shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and stripping and polishing floors. Beyond maintenance, you will act as a coach for your team, providing feedback and training on safety practices, equipment use, and procedures. You will also collaborate with Visitor Services and Education departments to facilitate program setup and teardown, ensuring a high-quality guest experience.
Schedules are flexible and depend on Science Center attendance, special events, and booked programs. This includes availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role requires the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team structure, adhering to all museum policies and guidelines.

Candidates must successfully complete a criminal background check, including checks through the Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Pennsylvania Child Abuse Registry. Successful completion of the Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting course for Mandated Reporters is also required. Additional clearances may be required as regulations change.
