About the Role

The Costume Development Manager will lead operational costume design and development projects from initial planning to final delivery and installation. Acting as the face of the projects to all levels of stakeholders, from executives to hourly union cast, this role ensures the creative design intent is balanced with practical manufacturing and operational considerations. You will facilitate interactions between the Designer and the development team, encouraging innovation with materials, methods, and construction techniques to advance creative goals.

This position reports to the Manager-Costume Design & Development. Please note that this is a temporary role with no guarantee of permanent placement.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleLead project planning including scope, creative content, timeline, and financials
  • check_circleCoordinate project execution including buyer oversight, work authorizations, and task prioritization
  • check_circleMaintain balance between cost, quality, and timeliness to ensure projects are on target and on budget
  • check_circleFacilitate interactions between designers and development teams to balance creative intent with manufacturing considerations
  • check_circleCollaborate with pre-production staff to ensure transition from development into mass production
  • check_circlePresent designs and projects to various partners including senior executives
  • check_circleCollaborate with buyers and designers to refine project scope as materials and construction methods are selected
  • check_circleEncourage innovation with materials, methods, and construction techniques to facilitate creative advancement
  • check_circleConduct functional reviews of prototype costumes and incorporate feedback into final designs
  • check_circleResolve quality and functionality issues resulting from the initial release and usage of costume components
  • check_circleParticipate in creative development work sessions to define scope and provide initial financial estimates
  • check_circleEnsure adequate documentation of photos, garments, and design illustrations for PLM and promotional materials

Requirements

  • verified5+ years experience in product development focusing on the garment industry
  • verified3+ years experience in leading project teams
  • verifiedExperience using financial systems to track project and/or budget health
  • verifiedExperience in delivering compelling, insightful, & accurate presentations to all levels of clients, including senior executives
  • verifiedExperience with garment construction
  • verifiedExperience picking the right textile for specific uses based on the textile properties and the end-use
  • verifiedAbility to obtain a valid Passport
  • verifiedAbility to travel both domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time
  • verifiedHigh School diploma or equivalent is required

Experience using purchasing software, GUS+ (Garment Utilization System), and YuniquePLM. Experience in Product Buying. Experience in the Theatre, Costume, Merchandise, or the Fashion Industry. Advanced degree in Fashion, Costuming, Merchandising, Project Management, or related.
