The Control Room Officer is the central nervous system of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art's security operations. Operating 24/7 from the Security Control Room, this essential staff position serves as the primary communication link between museum security personnel, external emergency response units, and the broader museum community.
Your mission is to ensure a safe and secure environment for the museum's priceless collections, members, visitors, volunteers, and staff. You will act as the first line of defense, monitoring life safety systems, building management, and surveillance feeds while maintaining a professional, courteous presence that upholds museum policies even during high-stress situations.
As the Control Room Officer, you will be the hub of activity for the security department. Your shift involves vigilant monitoring of CCTV systems, fire and sprinkler systems, and radio traffic from Gallery Attendants. You will be the voice of the museum, dispatching personnel, coordinating responses with service vendors and emergency services, and managing evacuations or fire suppression alarms when necessary.
Beyond monitoring, you will be the eyes and ears of the facility, scanning for water leaks, flooding, and physical hazards. You will maintain accurate logs, document incidents, and ensure all communications are clear and professional. This role requires a balance of technical vigilance and interpersonal skill, as you will interact with a wide range of individuals, from law enforcement officials to curious visitors, always prioritizing safety and courtesy.
Candidates must be prepared to undergo a comprehensive screening process, including a physical exam, drug and alcohol testing, background checks, and an MMPI exam (paid for by the museum). Successful candidates must demonstrate the physical stamina to stand for extended periods, climb steep stairs and ladders, and handle safety equipment. A current DPS Level 3 Security Commission or equivalent law enforcement experience is required, with training provided if necessary.
