About the Team
The Movement Innovation Collaborative (MIC) is a new entity dedicated to deepening and expanding the capacity, impact, and sustainability of California grassroots movements for racial justice and social transformation. Operating as a movement lab, we bolster changemakers and organizations to unlock new approaches and catalyze innovations in building durable people power. We provide space and support for organizations to experiment and learn together, helping to spread what works across communities by turning experiments into new playbooks that enable all our communities to achieve bolder change.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleDevelop compelling narratives that support case-making for MIC frameworks and strategies
- check_circleEnsure consistent tone, voice, and framing across programs, leadership communications, and digital presence
- check_circleTranslate complex infrastructure work into clear, compelling stories grounded in impact and outcomes
- check_circleDevelop and implement annual and quarterly communications plans aligned with organizational priorities
- check_circleBuild and manage scalable systems for content production, approvals, and distribution
- check_circleOwn and manage a cross-organizational editorial calendar
- check_circleManage external communications channels including email, website, and social platforms
- check_circlePrepare talking points, speeches, op-eds, and presentations for leadership and external audiences
- check_circleManage vendors and consultants who serve as communications capacity for the organization
- check_circleOperationalize MIC's brand strategy, messaging platform, and narrative positioning across all communications channels
- check_circleManage the communications technology stack to support execution, collaboration, and performance tracking
- check_circleDevelop and oversee key assets such as reports, toolkits, social media content, and email newsletters
Requirements
- verified7 to 10+ years of experience in communications, narrative strategy, or brand execution
- verifiedExperience working within or alongside organizing, power-building, or movement infrastructure organizations
- verifiedExceptional writing and editing skills
- verifiedExperience supporting and prepping senior leadership or executive communications
- verifiedStrong project management skills
- verifiedMust be located in California
Nice to Have
Familiarity with California's movement ecosystem and regional dynamics. Experience managing vendors, consultants, or creative partners. Comfort operating in ambiguity while building structure, clarity, and momentum for others.
