The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is dedicated to strengthening the community through a mission-driven culture. Our organization is guided by eight core principles that shape how we work and interact: we Cultivate leaders, Own our long-term impact, Welcome all people, Serve with excellence, Learn continuously, Unite for big goals, Respect everyone with kindness, and Play to celebrate life.
We operate under the "Membership By Design" framework, a model that empowers every staff member and volunteer to actively engage with our community. From enrollment and satisfaction to relationship building and fostering volunteerism, our team works to ensure every member feels a sense of ownership and belonging within the Y.
We are seeking passionate Assistant Teachers to join our Early Learning programs across multiple centers in West Michigan. In this role, you will be a vital part of the classroom team, assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. This position is defined by face-to-face leadership and direct engagement with children.
Your day will involve actively engaging with children, preparing materials for daily activities, and maintaining essential records such as attendance and departure times. You will support the Site Coordinator in leading lesson plans and assist with parent communication and conferences. Because center hours vary by location, flexibility is key, with schedules generally spanning from 6 AM to 6 PM.
To apply, please submit your resume and application through our careers portal. Candidates selected for the next stage will be contacted for an interview. Please note that successful candidates must complete specific certifications, including Blood Borne Pathogen training, CPR, and First Aid (required within the first 60 days), as well as background clearances including state criminal checks, fingerprinting, and DHS clearance.
The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles are welcomed and valued. We believe that our strength lies in our diversity and the unique perspectives each team member brings to our mission.
