The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is a comprehensive academic department providing a full spectrum of women's health services across all stages of life. The department includes general obstetrics and gynecology as well as subspecialty expertise in areas such as maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic surgery, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, and reproductive health. Faculty and resident physicians provide care at Marshall Health Network - Cabell Huntington Hospital and ambulatory sites across the region, supporting both tertiary and community-based women's health services.
The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is a state-supported, community-based medical school that partners with 19 hospitals throughout the region to fulfill its mission of education, service, and care. The faculty and administration are committed to providing high-quality medical education and residency training, emphasizing primary care at a relatively modest cost with both self-reliance and community support. Specializing in rural health issues, Marshall emphasizes the recruitment of students from rural West Virginia and placing graduates in clinical practice in rural areas.
The Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology oversees all operational and programmatic aspects of the department, including clinical, research, and educational activities. This role is pivotal in promoting excellence in women's health outcomes, strengthening residency and medical student education, and supporting scholarly activity through research, grants, publications, and regional and national collaboration. The Chair will drive strategic planning, manage budgets and resources, and lead the recruitment and mentorship of faculty and trainees to advance innovative, patient-centered models of care.
