The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences, and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief, OB/GYN, Temple Women's & Families Hospital. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to guide a dynamic academic department deeply committed to clinical excellence, education, research, and community engagement within one of the nation's most diverse urban centers.
For over a century, the Department of OB/GYN/RS has delivered high-quality, compassionate care to surrounding communities, with particular expertise in high-risk obstetrics and advanced gynecologic services. As a major academic institution, Temple University Hospital serves as the core clinical site for medical students and supports a thriving residency program of 25 trainees, alongside a Gynecologic Oncology fellowship.
The new Chair/CMO will serve as the academic, clinical, and administrative leader across Temple University Hospital campuses, including the newly opened Temple Women and Families Hospital—the region's only hospital dedicated exclusively to women's health and family care. This role requires a leader who can inspire excellence in clinical service, education, and scholarly activity while fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The Chair/CMO will provide strategic and operational oversight to advance the Department's mission in partnership with Temple Health leadership. Key priorities include expanding the clinical footprint to enhance access for underserved populations, strengthening community engagement, and leading physician and faculty recruitment, development, and retention efforts. The role demands a commitment to cultivating new business and academic partnerships, promoting scholarly productivity, and ensuring all departmental programs meet or exceed the quality standards established by Temple University Health System.
As CMO, the incumbent will serve as the physician leader and spokesperson for the Women's Hospital, promoting service excellence and accountability. This involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical care through strong judgment and individualized planning, while leading initiatives in patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will model integrity, inclusivity, and institutional stewardship, promoting a culture of respect and community engagement. Through visionary leadership and a steadfast commitment to Temple's mission of service, the Chair/CMO will guide the Department in delivering equitable, high-quality care and advancing the legacy of the University's founding President, Dr. Russell Conwell. The ideal leader will possess a deep understanding of emerging trends in women's health and population health, with the ability to build strong relationships across institutional and community settings.
Temple University values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other status protected by law.
