As a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens, you play a vital role in supporting the pharmacist and ensuring the pharmacy department operates smoothly and safely. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you assist in the practice of pharmacy in strict accordance with state, federal, and company regulations. Your work is essential to maintaining the integrity of the prescription process, from entering patient data to verifying medication accuracy and handling cash transactions.
At the heart of this role is the delivery of a distinctive and delightful customer experience. You will engage with customers and patients by greeting them warmly and offering proactive assistance with products and services. Whether resolving issues, answering questions, or guiding customers to over-the-counter aisles, your goal is to ensure every interaction leaves a positive impression. You are expected to model and share customer service best practices with the team, demonstrating key service traits such as courtesy, eye contact, and a commitment to servicing customers until they are satisfied. Building strong relationships with our most valuable customers is a key part of your daily routine.
Your day involves a blend of technical and operational tasks. You will utilize pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and ensure all data is entered correctly. Responsibilities include retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, checking for possible interactions, and reporting any errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty. You will also handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, process manual claims for third-party programs, and assist with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, and storing shipments.
In addition to core pharmacy duties, you may assist in administering clinical services, including the collection and labeling of blood or urine samples. You will also support the Pharmacy Manager in maintaining good relationships with the local medical community through outreach to physicians, nurses, and healthcare providers. Maintaining a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy environment is also part of your responsibilities.
We are committed to your professional growth. You will be encouraged to earn and maintain PTCB certification through our designated training program or state-required certification. As a condition of promotion to Senior Technician, PTCB certification is required. You will attend training sessions, complete required PPLs, and acquire continuing education credits to stay current with the latest healthcare and pharmacy developments.
