The Certified Nurse Assistant is the frontline partner in delivering compassionate, person-centered care to residents in a skilled nursing environment. This role exists to ensure every individual maintains the highest practicable level of functioning while living in a "homelike" setting that honors their dignity, rights, and independence.
You will be responsible for providing direct nursing and related services tailored to each resident's comprehensive plan of care. Your day involves supporting residents through Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), from bathing and grooming to mobility and feeding, ensuring their physical, mental, and psychosocial needs are met. Beyond clinical tasks, you act as a vital observer, monitoring changes in resident behavior or condition and communicating these insights to the nursing team to guide ongoing care.
This position operates within a 24-hour skilled care environment serving an aging population, often including residents with cognitive and physical impairments. The role requires resilience and empathy, as you will navigate the emotional complexities of long-term care, including end-of-life support, family interactions, and emergency responses.
Working as a CNA in this facility means being part of a team dedicated to protecting resident rights and promoting self-determination. You will interact with a diverse group of individuals, including residents, families, medical staff, and state surveyors. The environment is intimate and demanding, requiring the ability to cope with the mental and emotional stresses associated with 24-hour care, including emergency health responses and the presence of death and dying.
We value honesty, integrity, and confidentiality. You are expected to treat all residents with respect, using proper names and avoiding pet names, while handling their property and personal information with the utmost care. The culture emphasizes safety, infection control, and the use of proper body mechanics to protect both the resident and the caregiver.
Candidates must hold a current CNA certification issued by the local Department of Health Services or proof of successful completion of an approved OBRA certification program. A clean record in the State Nurse Aide Registry regarding abuse, neglect, or mistreatment is mandatory.
The selection process prioritizes candidates who demonstrate functional literacy, strong communication skills, and the physical capacity to assist residents safely. Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Successful applicants will be expected to complete facility-specific training on infection control, emergency procedures, and state inspection protocols.
