As a Certified Anesthesia Technologist, you will serve as a vital member of the anesthesia care team, assisting the Anesthesia Provider under the supervision of the Chief of Anesthesiology. Your role is critical in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of anesthesia for patients across the entire lifespan, from infants to geriatric adults. You will operate within the legal scope of practice, adhering to established standards of care, policies, and procedures to support complex surgical and emergency scenarios.
Your day involves a dynamic blend of clinical support, equipment management, and team collaboration. You will work with minimal supervision to assist in the setup and application of anesthesia care, including non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, fiberoptic intubation, and the placement of invasive monitoring equipment such as arterial lines and central venous pressure lines. During procedures, you will support the provider with patient positioning, sterile technique, and the operation of specialized devices like cell salvagers and TEE machines.
Beyond direct patient care, you play a key role in maintaining the operational readiness of the anesthesia department. This includes assembling airway sets, preparing machines for specific emergencies like malignant hyperthermia, and managing inventory for emergency carts. You will also coordinate with PACU, Critical Care, and Biomedical Engineering to ensure equipment availability and proper maintenance. Additionally, you will actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff development, and the mentorship of anesthesia students.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong foundation in anesthesia technology principles, including asepsis, sterile technique, and equipment troubleshooting. The selection process will focus on verifying your certification status, clinical experience in high-acuity environments (such as Cardiac ORs or Level 1 trauma centers), and your ability to perform essential physical tasks, including lifting and maneuvering heavy equipment.
We are committed to fostering a collaborative labor-management environment where professional growth and patient safety are paramount. As a team member, you are expected to consistently demonstrate a supportive attitude, uphold the Principles of Responsibility, and adhere to the Kaiser Permanente Code of Conduct. We value diversity and inclusion, ensuring a safe and respectful workplace for all employees and patients. This position requires flexibility, as it is an on-call role with varying shifts that include weekends.
