This position is designed for a professional driver dedicated to safely operating heavy-duty trucks on swing routes. The role involves navigating a variety of environments, including residential, commercial, and construction sites, to perform essential waste management duties. The driver serves as a key link in the fleet, ensuring that operations run smoothly while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards.
Safety is the cornerstone of this role. Drivers are expected to operate vehicles in full compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. A core part of the daily routine involves maintaining a clean and safe vehicle through rigorous pre- and post-trip inspections using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR). Any issues identified are immediately documented for corrective review.
The role requires proactive communication and cooperation. Drivers must promptly report unsafe situations, service calls, incidents, accidents, or property damage to the Route Manager or Dispatch. Collaboration with Route Managers is essential to improve route efficiencies and identify potential safety concerns at customer accounts. Drivers also work closely with the team to assist other company drivers as directed and ensure all documentation is completed accurately at the end of each route.
A significant aspect of this job involves direct interaction with customers and the physical management of waste containers. Drivers are responsible for completely dumping containers and leaving customer locations clean and free of debris. Proper placement of containers is critical; lids must be replaced, containers set upright, and driveways or traffic paths must remain unobstructed. Drivers also handle specific service protocols, such as notifying Dispatch of blocked containers or potential missed pick-ups, and completing tickets for excess yardage removal.
