About Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA)

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) has been a pioneer in mental health service, advocacy, innovation, and training for nearly a century. As one of the largest and most comprehensive nonprofit mental health agencies in Los Angeles County, we support over 19,000 low-income and no-income individuals annually. Our integrated services span mental and physical healthcare, homelessness and housing, supported employment, and wellness and financial services, with specialized programs for Veterans and transition-age youth.

Beyond direct service, MHALA provides training programs for individuals joining the behavioral health workforce and for the broader community. We are committed to ensuring that our employees are cared for just as deeply as our members. Communication, collaboration, transparency, and a healthy work/life balance are core components of our agency culture. We encourage self-care and offer a 35-hour workweek to support our team's well-being.

MHALA fosters diversity at all levels of the organization and promotes a team-oriented culture that offers opportunities for growth. We are proud to offer a competitive salary and full benefits package, including an employee assistance program and generous paid time off.

About the Role

The Personal Service Coordinator / Intensive Case Manager serves as a vital link for clients eligible for permanent housing through the Department of Health Services (DHS) Housing for Health (HFH) program. This role is designed to provide high-quality Intensive Case Management Services (ICMS) to individuals experiencing homelessness who face complex medical and behavioral health challenges.

In this position, you will adopt a client-centered approach, guiding individuals through every stage of the housing stabilization process. From initial outreach and screening to move-in coordination and long-term tenancy support, you will ensure clients receive the resources they need to maintain permanent supportive housing. You will act as a primary point of contact for housing subsidies, coordinate with DHS and partner agencies, and assist clients in accessing essential health, mental health, and substance use disorder services. The role requires a deep sensitivity to the unique barriers faced by this population and a commitment to helping them achieve meaningful, healthy lives in their communities.

Hiring Process & Application

MHALA is an equal opportunity employer and service provider. We consider individuals with a criminal history in accordance with both the Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (FCO) and the California Fair Chance Act (FCA). Reasonable accommodations will be provided to any qualified person with a medical or psychiatric disability, provided it does not change the essential nature of the position or cause undue hardship to the Agency's operations.

Candidates selected for this role must be able to provide employment verification directly from three (3) past employers within the most recent 7-year period. The position requires a current Class C driver's license, a vehicle, proof of valid automobile insurance, and the ability to be insured under MHALA's liability insurance. Additionally, TB clearance and re-testing every year are conditions of continued employment.

Equal Opportunity & Culture

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. MHALA values the unique perspectives that individuals from all backgrounds bring to our mission. We believe that a supportive, collaborative environment is essential for delivering the highest quality care to our community members.
