UW Health is a leading academic medical center dedicated to a holistic approach to healthcare. Our mission extends beyond diagnosing and treating illness; we partner with patients in their journey toward health and wellness. As the newest hospital in the system, East Madison Hospital stands as one of the most advanced healthcare and wellness centers in the country, embodying our commitment to innovation and patient-centered care.
As a Biomedical Engineering Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all medical equipment at UW Health is safe, functional, and ready for patient use. You will operate primarily at East Madison Hospital in Madison, WI, with potential for limited responsibility at other UW Health sites. Your day-to-day work involves diagnosing defective equipment and implementing repairs without direct supervision across diverse settings, including operating rooms, trauma units, emergency rooms, and various patient care areas.
Beyond immediate repairs, you will coordinate and supervise preventative maintenance programs to ensure compliance with industry standards. You will also evaluate the cost-effectiveness of utilizing vendors versus in-house staff, assist in the implementation of new devices, and help create training and workflow enhancements for clinical groups. This role requires a deep understanding of applicable codes and standards issued by The Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies.
