The Educational Audiologist serves as a vital member of the special education and/or 504 teams within USD 259. In this role, you will provide comprehensive audiological assessments and aural rehabilitation to students, ensuring their auditory needs are met within the educational setting. You will act as a bridge between medical, audiological, and educational perspectives, collaborating closely with Speech-Language Pathologists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff, and IEP team members to develop consistent auditory training programs.
Your day involves a blend of clinical and collaborative work. You will perform electroacoustic checks on hearing aids and FM systems, monitor student use of hearing technology, and evaluate the effectiveness of amplification in classrooms. Beyond direct student care, you will coordinate equipment maintenance, assist with minor repairs, and facilitate communication between the district, outside audiologists, and medical practitioners. You will also provide consultation and in-service training to staff and parents regarding resources, equipment functioning, and the educational needs of hearing-impaired students.
You will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor, interacting daily with a diverse population of students, colleagues, customers, and vendors. Success in this position requires the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy while maintaining a positive attitude. Candidates must hold a Doctoral Degree in Audiology and a valid Kansas License in Audiology. A Fitting License is preferred. Please note that this position is Exempt under FLSA status. The role requires the ability to use basic office equipment, including computers, scanners, and Microsoft Word/Outlook, with proficiency validated by testing.
