For over 130 years, the MSU College of Engineering has focused on advancing, disseminating, and applying engineering knowledge to benefit society locally and globally. The college delivers high-quality graduates, cutting-edge research, and innovative technology through eight departments tackling interdisciplinary themes such as computational sciences, energy, health, manufacturing, materials, mobility, security, and sustainability. With $60 million in annual research expenditures, the college fosters a highly collaborative research environment spanning multiple departments and an extensive network of external partners. The college maintains a strong track record of mentoring junior faculty to successfully grow their academic careers.
The College of Engineering invites applications for multiple tenure-system faculty positions in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We are seeking candidates in the areas of environmental engineering, hydrology and water resources, climate change, energy, and sustainability. While we primarily encourage applications for the rank of Assistant Professor, we will consider exceptional candidates for Associate or Full Professor appointments.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop a sustainable, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program, contribute significantly to their discipline through scholarly work, and demonstrate effective teaching and mentorship for both undergraduate and graduate students. The role also involves participating in institutional and professional service while supporting the university's mission in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We encourage candidates to explain how their research aligns with the department's strengths and broader MSU initiatives, such as the MSU Water Alliance (including the NSF WaterCube program), the U.S. Department of Energy's Industrial Training and Assessment Center, and MassTimber@MSU. Joint appointments with other engineering departments are possible, considering existing strengths and candidate preferences. Those who conduct research that enhances aspects of inclusion and equity are of high interest.
