The Assistant Cook Floater is a vital part of the Early Childhood Education department, supporting food service operations across multiple Union Settlement sites. This role exists to ensure continuity and quality in meal services for the children and families we serve. As a floater, you will provide flexible coverage at various locations, stepping in to support the Cook and maintain seamless food service operations wherever needed.
In this position, you will work under the supervision of the Education/Site Director and the Cook. Your day involves assisting with food preparation, arranging tables for lunch and snack times, and distributing meals to children. You will also manage essential housekeeping tasks, including washing dishes and utensils according to sanitary practices, cleaning kitchen areas before and after meals, and handling garbage disposal. A key aspect of the role is the opportunity to receive training in food preparation and cooking, allowing you to substitute for the Cook as required. Success in this role requires the ability to maintain cooperative relationships with staff and children while adapting to the needs of different sites.
Interested candidates should submit their application via the Union Settlement careers portal. The selection process typically involves a review of qualifications, followed by an interview with the Education/Site Director to discuss experience and fit within the team.
