This position serves as a critical link between operational flight experience and the next generation of fighter pilots. As a Simulator and Academic Instructor, you will leverage your background as a rated military pilot to train pilots in fighter aircraft. The role combines hands-on simulator instruction with academic teaching, ensuring that trainees master both the technical execution of flight maneuvers and the theoretical knowledge required for mission success.
You will be responsible for determining training requirements and recommending the development or modification of courseware to keep training materials current and effective. The role involves carrying out special projects, such as preparing and presenting research material in a clear, concise, and professional manner. While this is a non-flying position, the work is mission-essential; you may be required to report for duty during base closures or delays to ensure the continued operation of critical training functions.
The incumbent will work in a classroom environment where standing for several hours at a time is required during instruction. The schedule is dynamic, often requiring work outside of normal duty hours to accommodate simulator and academic training schedules. Occasional travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft may be necessary.
This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Candidates must pass initial and periodic short-notice drug testing, as illegal drug use in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission, national security, and public safety.
U.S. Citizenship is required, and males must be registered for the Selective Service. This position is subject to the DoD Priority Placement Program. Selected candidates will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period or a 2-year trial period. Upon completion of this period, employment will be terminated unless certification is received in writing that continued employment advances the public interest.
Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks demonstrating their status as a rated military pilot, flight instructor, or flight examiner. Proof of flight hours must be submitted to verify eligibility against minimum requirements.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information. This role is part of a team dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of air superiority and pilot readiness.
