Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. Our mission is defined by camaraderie, pride, and a shared purpose to detect, prevent, and interdict terrorists, weapons, and contraband from illegally entering or attacking the United States. We offer skilled pilots an opportunity to join a law enforcement career that combines aviation expertise with national security.
As an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you will serve as a critical asset in aviation-based law enforcement operations. This role is designed for experienced pilots who want to apply their skills in a high-stakes, rewarding environment. You will conduct air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities to intercept smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels. Your day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring suspect behavior patterns, collecting and analyzing strategic intelligence, and supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.
This is a full-time, security-based position offering exceptional federal benefits, job stability, and a streamlined application process. We actively seek seasoned pilots and those with military training to join our ranks.
There are three primary ways to apply to become an Air Interdiction Agent:
Stay Updated: We highly recommend opting into CBP's talent repository by selecting the "Contact a Recruiter" button. Choose "Air and Marine Operations" and "Air Interdiction Agent" as your position of interest, then complete the pre-screening questions. This ensures you receive monthly updates on webinars, career expos, and future opportunities.
Selection Process: Duty locations are determined by operational and mission requirements. A duty location will be offered after successfully completing a three-part assessment. You must be willing to work at any duty location within the region you select, which may include the Southeast Region, Southwest Region, Caribbean Air and Marine Branch (CAMB), or National Air Security Operation Centers (NASOC) UAS locations.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background. Veterans' preference eligibility is recognized in accordance with federal statutes, and specific provisions exist for those entitled to preference under 5 U.S.C. 3312.
Age and Citizenship Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. While the standard maximum age for initial appointment to a primary law enforcement officer within DHS is the day before an individual's 37th birthday, the Commissioner of CBP has approved a temporary increase to age 40 for original placement into an Air Interdiction Agent position. Veterans entitled to preference eligibility may be exempt from this maximum age restriction.
