About the Team

Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. Our mission is defined by camaraderie, pride, and a shared purpose to detect, prevent, and interdict terrorists, weapons, and contraband from illegally entering the United States. We offer skilled pilots an opportunity to join a law enforcement career that combines aviation expertise with national security.

About the Role

As an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you will serve as a critical asset in aviation-based law enforcement operations. This role is designed for experienced pilots seeking a rewarding career with exceptional stability and the chance to make a tangible impact on border security. You will partner with ground and air assets to conduct patrols, surveillance, and pursuit activities against smuggled contraband via land, air, and sea. Your day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring suspect behavior patterns, analyzing strategic intelligence, and supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.

AMO is actively recruiting for these full-time, security-based opportunities. We are particularly interested in seasoned pilots and those with military training who are ready to apply their skills in a dynamic, mission-critical environment. The role offers the chance to work across diverse regions, from the Southeast and Southwest borders to the Caribbean and National Air Security Operation Centers.

Hiring Process

The application process for Air Interdiction Agents is streamlined but rigorous. There are three primary ways to apply:

  1. Direct Application: Complete the Air Interdiction Agent applicant checklist and email it to a recruiter at cbp_amo_recruiting@cbp.dhs.gov along with your resume.
  2. USAJOBS: Submit your application directly through the USAJOBS portal.
  3. Airline Apps: Apply via the Airline Apps platform.

After applying, candidates must successfully complete a three-part assessment. Upon completion, a duty location will be offered based on operational and mission requirements. You must be willing to work at any location within the region you select, which may include Homestead, FL; Aguadilla, PR; Tucson, AZ; San Diego, CA; El Paso, TX; and various NASOC UAS locations.

We highly recommend staying updated by opting into CBP's talent repository. Select the Contact a Recruiter button, choose Air and Marine Operations and Air Interdiction Agent as your position of interest, and complete the pre-screening questions. This ensures you receive monthly updates on webinars, career expos, and future opportunities.

Culture and Opportunity

Joining AMO means becoming part of a culture where purpose drives daily operations. We offer a career path with excellent pay, exceptional federal benefits, and job stability. New hires may be eligible for significant recruitment and retention incentives, including a one-time payout of $10,000 after completing the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC).

We are committed to building a diverse workforce that reflects the nation we serve. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, and we actively encourage veterans to apply, offering specific age waivers and preference eligibility for those entitled to veterans' preference under 5 U.S.C. 3312.
