Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. Our mission is defined by camaraderie, pride, and a shared purpose to detect, prevent, and interdict terrorists, weapons, and contraband from illegally entering or attacking the United States. We offer skilled pilots an opportunity to join a law enforcement career that combines aviation expertise with national security.
As an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you will serve as a critical asset in aviation-based law enforcement operations. This role is designed for experienced pilots who seek an exciting and rewarding career with exceptional federal benefits and job stability. You will partner with a dedicated team to conduct air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities targeting smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels. Your day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring suspect behavior patterns, collecting and analyzing strategic intelligence, and supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.
This position offers a streamlined application process for seasoned pilots and those with military training. You will be part of a culture that values high standards and operational excellence, working across diverse regions to secure the nation's borders.
There are three primary ways to apply to become an Air Interdiction Agent:
Stay Updated: We highly recommend opting into CBP's talent repository by selecting the Contact a Recruiter button. Select Air and Marine Operations and Air Interdiction Agent as your position of interest, then complete the pre-screening questions. This ensures you receive monthly updates on webinars, career expos, and future opportunities.
Assessment and Location: Upon successful completion of a three-part assessment, you will receive a final offer letter. Duty locations are determined by operational and mission requirements. You must be willing to work at any duty location within the region you select, which may include the Southeast Region (e.g., Homestead, FL), Southwest Region (e.g., Tucson, AZ; San Diego, CA), or NASOC UAS locations (e.g., Sierra Vista, AZ).
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
Age and Veterans: While the standard maximum age for original appointment to a primary law enforcement officer within DHS is the day before an individual's 37th birthday, the Commissioner of CBP has approved a temporary increase to age 40 for Air Interdiction Agent positions. Veterans' preference eligibility under 5 U.S.C. 3312 may also affect age restrictions; proof of preference (DD-214 Member 4 Copy) must be submitted at the time of application.
