Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. Our mission is defined by camaraderie, pride, and a shared purpose to detect, prevent, and interdict terrorists, weapons, and contraband from illegally entering or attacking the United States. We offer skilled pilots an opportunity to join a law enforcement career that combines aviation expertise with a critical national security mandate.
As an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you will serve as a frontline defender, performing aviation-based law enforcement operations. This role is designed for experienced pilots who want to leverage their skills in a high-stakes environment. Your day-to-day activities will involve conducting air patrols, surveillance, and pursuit activities to intercept smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels. You will monitor behavior patterns of suspect persons and vessels, collect and analyze strategic intelligence, and support search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.
This is a full-time, security-based opportunity offering job stability and the chance to work with a team where your expertise is in high demand. Whether operating manned aircraft or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), you will be integral to the agency's mission across the Southwest Border, Southeast Border, Caribbean Air and Marine Branch, and National Air Security Operation Centers.
The application process for Air Interdiction Agents is streamlined but rigorous, designed to identify the most qualified candidates. There are three primary ways to apply:
Stay Updated: We highly recommend opting into CBP's talent repository by selecting the Contact a Recruiter button. Select Air and Marine Operations and Air Interdiction Agent as your position of interest to complete pre-screening questions. This ensures you receive monthly updates on webinars, career expos, and future opportunities.
Successful candidates will be offered a duty location based on operational and mission requirements after completing a three-part assessment. You must be willing to work at any duty location within the region you select, which may include Homestead, FL; Aguadilla, PR; Tucson, AZ; San Diego, CA; El Paso, TX; and various UAS locations.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or genetic information. We are committed to fostering a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
Age and Veterans' Preference: While the standard maximum age for initial appointment to a primary law enforcement officer within DHS is 37, the Commissioner of CBP has approved a temporary increase to age 40 for original placement into an Air Interdiction Agent position. Additionally, veterans entitled to preference eligibility under 5 U.S.C. 3312 are exempt from this maximum age requirement. Proof of Veterans' Preference (DD-214 Member 4 Copy) must be submitted at the time of application.
