Texas is IT! (TXIT) Apprenticeship, operated under the Austin Community College District, functioned as a specialized grant-sponsored initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of technology professionals in Central Texas. Based in Austin, TX, this program operated within the higher education sector to bridge the gap between academic training and industry needs. The initiative focused on training IT apprentices and pre-apprentices, specifically serving students currently enrolled at Austin Community College who sought to launch careers in the tech industry.
Through strategic partnerships with businesses across the Austin area, the program facilitated the development of skilled workforces required for local economic growth. Participants gained exposure to diverse technical fields including cybersecurity, network support, software development, help desk operations, and computer programming. These opportunities were structured to align with the specific staffing requirements of employer partners, ensuring that graduates were prepared for immediate entry into the workforce.
The TXIT Apprenticeship program was made possible through funding from the US Department of Labor and concluded operations in July 2023. While the grant-sponsored apprenticeship has ended, the Austin Community College Computer Science Department continues to manage related educational pathways. Prospective candidates seeking current apprenticeship opportunities or further information regarding technology training programs are directed to contact the department directly for details on available programs and enrollment procedures.
