Additive Manufacturing Technicians at restor3d play a critical role in the operation of 3D LBPF metal printers. This position is essential for transforming CAD models into verified medical devices, ensuring precision from build preparation through post-processing. The role supports R&D engineers and maintains the integrity of our quality-controlled manufacturing process.
Your day will involve the full operation of metal printers, including machine setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. You will review CAD models and drawings to prepare builds, create necessary device records, and perform visual inspections of manufactured goods. The role also requires aiding in post-processing steps using common shop equipment such as micro-blasting and grinding wheels, as well as testing verification samples on hydraulic and electronic test frames.
This position operates within a regulated industry environment, combining standard office and laboratory conditions with the demands of a machine shop. You may encounter noise, dust, and elevated temperatures. The role involves handling ultra-fine, medical-grade metallic powder and other raw materials. Safety is paramount; you will be required to wear full-face respirators, protective clothing, eye protection, and hearing protection. A respirator fit test is mandatory prior to starting work.
The role requires the ability to stand for extended periods (3+ hours) and lift or carry up to 35 pounds intermittently. You will also perform tasks requiring squatting, kneeling, and working with ladders, alongside extensive manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment.

Conformis, now acquired by restor3d, operates within the medical equipment manufacturing sector with headquarters in Billerica, Massachusetts. Founded in 2004, the organization specializes in the development of personalized joint replacement systems and instrumentation designed to optimize implant fit and performance. The company leverages advanced imaging technology to create implants that are individually sized and shaped to match a patient's unique anatomy, contrasting with traditional methods that force the patient to fit the implant.
This approach aims to preserve healthy tissue and minimize surgical trauma by providing precise anatomic fit. The firm also offers disposable, patient-specific cutting and placement guides that simplify surgical techniques by reducing the number of tools required during orthopedic procedures. These solutions allow surgeons to deliver treatments that address the specific needs of each individual rather than relying on generic, one-size-fits-all components.
As a publicly traded entity based in Massachusetts, Conformis focuses on advancing patient care through innovation in orthopedic surgery. The company's strategy centers on the belief that optimizing outcomes requires a personalized approach to medical devices, ensuring that both the implant and the surgical process are tailored to the distinct biological characteristics of the patient.
