Activity Assistant

About the Role

As an Activity Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the Activity Director in planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Activity Department. Your mission is to ensure an ongoing program of activities that meets the interests and physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident, in accordance with comprehensive assessments and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

You will serve as a key liaison between the activity department, medical staff, nursing staff, and other supervisors to adequately plan resident activities. This role requires you to provide direct activities and interact with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies under all conditions. You will be entrusted with the administrative authority and accountability necessary to carry out your assigned duties, making independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Working Environment

This position involves working in office areas as well as throughout the facility. You will be on your feet for long periods, walking long distances, and may need to climb step ladders to hang decorations. The role requires the ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies in excess of 50 pounds, as well as assist in the evacuation of residents.

You will interact with residents who may be ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, or at times hostile. The environment may include exposure to infectious diseases, odors, and infectious waste, including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. You must be prepared to tolerate moderate amounts of stress, particularly during holidays and when activity levels increase, and be subject to frequent interruptions.

Qualifications & Culture

We are looking for a candidate with a high school diploma or its equivalent. No prior experience is necessary, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided. Success in this role requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, as well as the capacity to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

You must be willing to handle residents based on their current maturity level and demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with and supervise both professional and non-professional personnel. You must also be able to follow written and oral instructions and maintain emotional stability and personal integrity while functioning independently.
