City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide comprehensive support to students, classrooms, and the entire school community. Our mission is to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that equips them with the necessary skills and mindset to thrive and contribute to their communities.
As a Student Success Coach and Mentor, you will serve as a City Year AmeriCorps Member, focusing on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Your service is designed to help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.
You will work closely with teachers to support whole-class instruction, manage breakout spaces, and provide in-class assistance. While experience in these specific tasks is not required, you will receive 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to prepare you for the role. You will collaborate with partner teachers and school staff every step of the way to plan and monitor individual student progress.
Your day-to-day impact includes supporting academic coaching and interpersonal development through 1:1 and small group interactions. You will help students develop literacy and math skills, create behavior management systems, and foster interpersonal skills using proven strategies of learning, practice, reflection, and repetition. Additionally, you will support whole-school initiatives by conducting extended day and virtual programming, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
