The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa is a distinguished academic unit within UI Health Care, recognized for its national and international leadership in clinical care, research, and education. Through partnerships with the State of Iowa, the department has expanded its reach to provide training in rural Iowa, while maintaining close collaborations with the Departments of Urology, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Stead Family Children's Hospital.
We seek an Academic OB/GYN to join the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. This position is based at the Medical Center on the University Campus and serves as a cornerstone for the department's clinical and educational mission. The role involves staffing the obstetric unit, supervising the benign gynecology team and the resident continuity clinic, and providing comprehensive outpatient care.
Day-to-day responsibilities include rounding on antepartum and postpartum patients, managing gynecologic cases, and providing consultations to inpatient and emergency departments. You will also consult for family practice providers and advanced practice providers. The position offers significant opportunities for career development, particularly for those with an interest in vulvar vaginal diseases, pediatric adolescent gynecology, or pelvic pain. Additionally, there is room to engage in clinical research and participate in quality and safety initiatives.
This role is designed for a high-volume environment, supporting approximately 3,300 births annually in a high-risk labor and delivery unit. The position includes in-house and back-up call responsibilities overnight and on weekends, supported by an extensive 24/7 backup system, in-house anesthesia, and a Level 4 NICU.
